Today, 10/17 was a big day for the DeLaurentis homeroom! Not only were you programming like engineers but you each grew as partners and learners with our mentors there to help! I can't wait to hear all about your experiences!
For homework you will be writing at least one 5-8 sentence paragraph describing your time spent with your Pace Mentors!
Your paragraph must include:
What were you feeling as you looked around room 103 and 20 college students were standing there!
Explain the initial introduciton of your groups?
What are 1-2 things that the PACE students helped you learn/better understand?
How did your team and the PACE group interact?
Please include anything else you learned/felt/saw/experienced during your time with your mentors!

***WARNING, WARNING, WARNING***
You must type your response in Microsoft Word first. Then, copy and paste into the comment box here. REREAD your response and check for correct spelling, puncutation, and complete sentences

What I was feeling when they walked in was these people were huge. The pace students helped me understand programming more then my prior knowledge. And I learned a little bit how to make the robot move. We interacted by making someone do one job while the other does another job. And what I noticed was that there was more boys then girls in the pace group.

When I looked around the room with all of our students and the PACE students I felt rather awkward because they were so much older, taller, and bigger than us. But they also looked really nice so I was excited to be working with them. The initial introduction was awkward at first but after a little while we all got used to each other and got along well. At first we all were kind of quite and didn’t really say anything but then once we got started we didn’t stop. The PACE students taught us a bunch of things such as they helped us fix some minor issues in the build of the robot. Also they taught us how to program the robot. My team and the PACE students interacted by talking to each other and getting to know one and other. I learned that you don’t want to use the brains we got because they didn’t work. Also a lot of the robots when the go they turn slightly and no one can really figure out why.

I had fun today working with my PACE mentor team. At first I felt a little nervous and small. When we introduced ourselves it was a little awkward. But one of the PACE students complimented me on my Lego building technique and I felt flattered. I started to feel important and good about myself. The PACE students helped us to learn the importance of using the directions. Following the directions were key in designing our robots. I also learned how to program my robot so that it could move. My group enjoyed working with the PACE students. We worked really well together even though they were serious at times,we all had a good time.

When I saw all of the Pace University students today in class, I have to admit I was a little freaked out about how tall they were! They were like giants compared to us! Also I was surprised at how many boys there were compared to the small amount of girls. When we first got our group, we kind of just stood there and fiddled with the robot so we could fill up the awkward silence. But after a while, we became a little more comfortable around each other and started to talk more. Eventually we weren't awkward any more. One thing that the Pace University students helped me understand more were the wheels of the robot. For example: if the wheels were touching something other than the ground, then they would get all fidgety and start to vibrate. I know sounds like a pretty dumb thing to learn and not already know, but to tell you the truth, it wasn't easy to understand. I thought that my group and the Pace group worked and interacted pretty well together. We all asked a lot of questions to get to know each other better and we also asked some fun questions too. I think all in all it was a really great experience. The Pace people were really nice and they helped us out a lot.

When I looked around the room to see maybe twenty Pace mentors just staring at us, I was both anxious and nervous. Why? Well because they came to help us learn to program our Lego robots. The mentors came up with the great idea of playing the name game to get everybody introduced with each other. The idea of the game was to say your name and something about yourself; it was both fun and helpful for us to learn their names. One thing that the Pace students helped my group understand better was how to make our robot move. If I had to pick another thing they taught us about, it would be how they helped us construct our robots. At first my group was just doing our own thing but as time past we really got into working together as a group. Looking back on the experience one thing I enjoyed above all the rest was when the robot kept spinning and it wouldn’t stop until John, (one of our mentors), picked it up and finally got it to stop. Those are the reasons why I enjoyed the mentor’s visit to our class today.

Today twenty students from Pace University came to mentor our Lego robotics program during math class. When they came in it made me feel like I was short because the students from Pace were very big compared to my class. All of the Pace students looked nice which made me happy. My group and I got to introduce ourselves and told the mentors what we were going to work on with them. Then we started working. One thing they taught my group was how to fix the problem with the vibrating wheel. My group interacted with the mentors very well. Sometimes one of the mentors would tell us to fix the problem with the back wheel not able to spin a 360 degree angle. I saw that the mentor that did the programing would always test what he programed into the robot. I had a lot of fun with the mentors and had a great experience

When all the PACE students walked into our classroom, I felt very small and childish. When the PACE mentors for our group showed up, they introduced themselves and asked us a few questions about ourselves. They saw our robot and started laughing, though. Our robot wasn’t doing so well at the time because some people in our group didn’t want to follow the directions in the book. The PACE students asked us if we wanted to rebuild our robot and we agreed. So we began to rebuild it. We made some progress, but I would like to have made more. Most of the PACE students in our group didn’t help very much, but one girl really helped a lot. Most of them just laughed at our robot, though. I didn’t catch the girl’s name who helped a lot, but she was tall, with dark hair and a white t- shirt. My experience with the PACE mentors wasn’t the most fun, but we made progress.

I had a lot of fun with my Pace mentors today. At first I was like, wow, these people are so much older than us! I was sort of nervous at first, but then I was okay. We introduced ourselves, and got right to work. Our brain wasn't working, and we went through 4 brains, 2 laptops, and 2 charging cords ! But our mentors helped us assemble and un-assemble our robot faster. One way that our group interacted with our mentors was that we all helped build a throne for our little LEGO toy to put on our robot. Overall, I had a really good experience with the Pace mentors.

When I saw all the college students I was scared. And then i see that they're really nice. the introduction was a little like, "Hi I'm Joe, this is Pavel, this is Joe and this Mitch." "Hi I'm Leon, this is Ethan, this is Jessica and this is Alsya." The things I leaned were our wheel was messed up and we couldn't turn well. The PACE kids helped us see what we did wrong.

Every time a college student walked in my body seemed to shrink foot by foot. In the beginning they seemed so intimidating, but then when you went one on one with them they were a lot nicer that I had expected. When the students walked to our group, butterflies were churning in my stomach. At first there was a little awkward silence but then our mentor Nelson introduced himself. Soon after that we were all blabbering about our lives and getting familiar with each other. The PACE students helped us by (and we haven’t completely figured it out yet) trying to solve the problem of the wheels bumping into something unknown. The missing piece has slowed down the potential speed of our robot. We think that it is an extra little yellow knob, so first we will test run it with the yellow piece on then take it off to see if that increases the robot’s speed. I feel that 2 of the Pace mentors really encouraged us and we worked well together. One more thing I experienced is that some of the mentors in my group aren’t exactly doing this program for the love of Lego; they were doing it because it’s (in their mind) no work. I feel this way because some mentors were really engaged, while some were daydreaming while sitting away from the group. Overall the Pace students ignited a spark of inspiration for Lego Robotics.

When I looked around the room I felt small yet I full of joy because I was glad that PACE came. I also saw teams work together, testing there programs, and adding and remove parts to their robot. When they came they introduced them selves and then asked us are names. There was four PACE students and four kids in a group. The PACE students helped me have a learn of how many rotations equaled 4 feet(which was 7) . This gave my group a chance get the right number of rotations that was needed. By knowing we have to go 107 feet we tried 188 rotations but that was a little to far so we tried 187.5 and that worked. My team worked nicely together and go along well. I had fun with the PACE stundents

When I was waiting at the main entrance, I saw these GIANT people walk in. I got really nervous, but then, after one of the members said hello, I felt more comfortable around them. It felt weird escorting all of the collage guys and girl because normally the older people escort you so that’s why I felt weird. My group helped us by showing us how to use the computer program and all the basics on it like how to move, stop etc. We all became friends very quickly, they weren’t shy, we all worked together and I thought our group worked very well. I noticed that it wasn’t just one of them doing all the work, they all took turns on the computer and even gave us a try. I also learned that our group got all the broken stuff(3 brains, two computers, and a wire all didn't work). work

When I first looked at the students, I thought: “Oh my God, this is not going to work. They had punk looking hair and nose rings and were very tall. They were very intimidating and I was pretty afraid after Mrs. DeLaurentis’ warning about the previous class.
Despite my fears, the initial introduction of our group went very well. We immediately got to work on our robot which was fish tailing. Then the mentors showed us how to program our robot and we learned how to do surgery on the robot without completely destroying it. We interacted with our Pace students in a friendly way, although how this friendliness was established, I don’t know.
It was a great day.

My feeling inside were filled with excitement!I did feel a little small and akward at first but that changed. I was really looking forward to having them help us and give us new ideas about our robot! I was also a bit nervous because I didn’t know how this would go and I was so anxious to find out what would happen with them! One thing pace helped me understand was to really follow the directions, and to help you get every LEGO piece you need so your robot can be the best it can be! Hey also made me understand how to build a really good robot and they helped me and my group understand what tools or not just to build our own kind of robot that we need to follow the directions. I think my PACE group interacted pretty well. They did explain what we needed to do and helped us rebuild our robot. A couple didn’t really talk that much, but I hope that changes the next time we see our groups! The introduction for my group was they of course said their names but they really wanted us to re due our robot. In a way I kind of felt a little embarrassed because our robot was a mess, but I was really excited that we had help from them since they have done this before. Overall I liked working with them.

When the pace students came into the class I was thinking that it was really weird that they were all boys. That was strange because we had three girl names on our list. Then we thought oh my gosh the boys have name like Courtney and sara. We were cracking up we thought it was hilarious for some reason. When the students came to our group we realized that we had a different group then what we were given. When we sat down in the hall way and got that sorted out we started working on the programming. First we program it 7 rotations to see how far it went, it went 4 feet exactly. 4 feet Is a good land mark number so all we had to do is divide 107 by 4 and multiply that by 7. Once we got the program ready we tested it out. The robot was turning left and right because the ground is uneven. We tookmoff the back wheel and put to big wheels in the back but then it was turning left. First we came up with that the left motor could be going slower then right but we didn't want to take apart the whole robot. So we came up with about 4 other different sollutions. In the end we replaced the left motor and when I was putting it on the new motor I relized that the peice that connected the motor ton the rest of the robot was broken and bent. So right now our robot isn't finished but at least we figured out the problem.
I learned that you sometime have to do one thing to figure out another. I also learned how to really program the robot

I was feeling really nervous when I saw them because they looked so big and I never worked with PACE University before and they were not as shy as I thought they would be. First PACE introduced themselves to me and my group then me and my group introduced ourselves to them. Our group was very nice and helpful. Also, one of our group members was an expert at robots and putting pieces together so he really helped us a lot. Some things that PACE helped me learn better was that if you put the back wheels on it will move straight but it won’t turn. Also I learned how to program the robot. The things I learned about programming the robot was how fast it could go, how long it could move, how to make it turn and how to make it go backwards. My group and I interacted with our PACE group good because they knew what pieces were which ones and understood where we were and how we were struggling to put together our robot and program it. I felt really excited when our robot started to move, go backwards and turn. I saw that our mentors were struggling too to make it go straight because it was going crooked. I experienced how to build and program a robot with PACE University.

When I first saw the PACE students I was kind of intimidated because seeing all of the student that look like big football players, and one of the people that was in my group was a U.F.C. wrestler!!! When we started getting all of the pace students it kind of started with the students walking by and looking at the table tents, and then sitting down if it was their group and once we got all four of the students. One of them started to introduce and sounded kind of like this: “I’m Nick Nasti (haha) this is John, mike and what is you’re name.” “I’m Matt, Andrew, Sierra, and Ashley.” They were very good teachers they taught us how to program and how to get our wheal right.

At first the PACE students were a little surpised at what our robot look like because we DEFINENTY did not follow the directions. They’re words were “we would’ve gotten an A+ in creativity.” The entire the time pace group and my group tried putting the robot back together while following the directions. I think that the PACE students did more then they should have when helping us remaking the robot. I still don’t agree with my team’s name (Robot Dougies.) I think that our team name shouldn’t have an “I” in the name. for example “Hag Tag Swag.”

When the 20 PACE college students were standing in the front of the room, I felt small, and they were so big! I also felt a little anxious to see which ones where in my group! The Pace students who were in my group introduced themselves first. After they introduced themselves, my group didn’t really know what to say, so we nodded our heads meaning to say hello, so they looked at the table tent and guessed which one was which. The PACE students helped us a little bit more of understanding how the programming works. They showed us how to turn our robot, how to make it drive backwards, and they also showed us how to make it go faster. My PACE group interacted with us fine. They were being nice, HELPING us instead of doing it for us, and they were showing good iCARE! Our robot had some technical difficulties, as much as building difficulties. Well, at first, our robot(Jerry) was out of preserved battery power, so we had to keep charging it. Than we had to change all the tires a couple times. And we had to re build the back tire. That was fun having the PACE students visit us!!!!!

I was feeling nervous but thrilled to see so many teenagers working with us. It was strange to see bigger and older students standing around the room. It was awkward to feel so small but I eventually got used to it. I was surprised at the amount of boys there were all boys in our group. I for one was very shy around them I don’t know about the rest of my group but I was anxious to see what the boys were really like. The PACE students taught us many things. They told us if we made the robot lighter by removing some sensors and its face it would go faster. Another thing they taught us was if we added extra wheels the robot would be steadier on the creases in the floor and move faster. They helped us program the robot also. I learned that you could make the robot have the robot move faster if you made it lighter it would move faster. I also learned how to program the robot and make it move. I also learned that if you add more wheels the robot would be steady and move faster.
